Strategies to Maintain Professional Well-Being

According to a 2006 APA survey, work is the number one cause of stress for Americans and almost one-third of Americans have trouble balancing their work and family lives. Practicing psychologists should take care not to neglect themselves while helping others. Like everyone else, practitioners need to build support systems before crises occur, reach out to family and friends, and seek assistance from colleagues when necessary.

The APA Advisory Committee on Colleague Assistance (ACCA) and Practice Directorate offer resources to help practicing psychologists maintain their professional well being and a healthy work-life balance.
