Dear (Name):
On behalf of the ________ Psychological Association (initials), (I/we) (am/are) asking for your cooperation in (getting out the word/setting up an event) that will help to promote messages of resilience in our community.
Our local efforts are part of a national initiative, co-sponsored by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Discovery Health Channel, entitled The Road to Resilience. This long-term public education campaign grew out of the public's reactions to the events of September 11, 2001. The APA learned through research that the public did not understand that resilience -- the capacity to bounce back from tragedy -- could be learned.
Whether the death of a loved one, loss of a job, serious illness, terrorist attacks or other major adversity, how we respond to these experiences can help us to more effectively manage these situations and enjoy life despite difficult times. Resilience is a skill that can be learned, and I am sure you will agree that helping our community build resilience is an important topic that needs all of our attention.
We are writing to you as an organization that has members who would likely be interested in community outreach activities around the topic of resilience. We are asking that (name of organization) partner with the ________ Psychological Association to help promote the topic of resilience (through sponsoring a discussion forum on resilience, providing booth space at your local conference, publishing materials, or other event or activity). We think your members would be interested in the information this campaign has to offer.
As a cooperating organization, your group may receive:
- Brochures, feature articles and other promotional materials to include in your organization's publications describing your involvement with us in the resilience project.
- Psychologists who may speak at no charge at conferences and meetings or engage in other grassroots activities in support of our mutual efforts
- Inclusion of your organization's contributions in our member newsletters
To help us promote messages on resilience, we are asking that your organization also assist us in spreading messages about resilience by providing some of the following:
- Access to contact information for your local leadership, so that our (psychologists or association) may make connections
- Opportunities to present discussion forums to your organization's staff, invited guests and members
- Opportunities for gratis exhibit space at your (state, regional and local) conferences and meetings, as well as speaking opportunities at those meetings
I have enclosed a copy of The Road to Resilience brochure and a feature article to show you some of the information developed as part of this effort.
I will follow up with you to determine your interest in this project. Should you have any questions in the meantime, please contact me at (your name and number here).
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Xxxxxxx
